Pr.20380 is a class of new corvettes for the Russian Navy. Their size is actually such, that NATO classifies them as frigates yet their mission is more or less standard for corvettes – littoral zone operations, gun support of naval landings and anti ship and anti submarine warfare. The class has several subclasses and derivatives – first ship is easily distinguished by the Kashtan CIWS system in front of and below the bridge. Subsequent ships are equipped with Redut-Zaslon vertical launch system (VLS) instead. “Late type” features streamlined main mast and removal of the rear smaller mast. Pr.20385 Gremyashchy is again slightly different and so far, only Pacific Fleet received a few ships. As with larger Gorshkov frigates, 20380s are also designed with special materials and shapes which considerably lower the radar picture.
20380’s carry 90 crew and are powered by 4 diesel engines, giving the ship maximum speed of 27kts and a range of 3800NM. They are equipped with Furke 2 and later Zaslon air search radars, Surface search radars, bow mounted Zarya-M radar and various ECM and ESM sensors. The ship is equipped with hangar and helo deck for one Ka-27 helicopter and carries 4 decoy launchers.
It’s main armament consists of either A-190 100mm or A-192 130mm gun, 2x AK-630M CIWS, 2×4 Kh-35 antiship missiles (SS-N-25), 12 Redut VLS cells, 2×4 Paket-NK 330mm anti-sub/Anti-torpedo torpedoes and a couple of heavy machine guns.
Soobrazitelny (531) (“Smart/Astute”)
The ship was laid down in 2003, launched in 2010 and joined the Baltic Fleet in 2011. In 2017 she and her sister ship Boyky sailed through English channel escorted by type 23 frigate HMS Sutherland. In October 2022, she sailed with sister ship Stoikiy into the Mediterranean and visited Algeria, operated in the Med and returned to Algeria in December. In April they sailed back to the Baltic and later that year and in 2024 operated in the Atlantic ocean.

The kit
This is my second DreamModel ship kit after Gorshkov. More or less the same applies for this kit as for the previous one. Very nice addition are deck masks as well as some PE grooves that help with attaching come of the railings. The biggest problem I had was the decals – I wanted to build one of the “mid” ships, but the decal stuck to the surface with such force, I couldn’t move or easily remove it. Thus I changed to another ship, but I realized only later, that some modifications were made to the ship that were not yet applied to Soobrazitelny, but I’ve decided to stick with it nevertheless. The rigging is actually supplied as PE parts. Not really in scale, but a nice addition anyway. Some of the decals were completely out of register, especially the flags, which I omitted for that reason.
The good:
– overall nice fit
– all in one package – plastic main parts, 3d printed parts and PEs for details, masks for the decks
– engraved grooves for certain PE railings
The bad:
– tiny 3d printed parts should have some reserves
– masts would look better 3d printed
– decals almost impossible to move once on the surface
– flag decals out of register
